Multi-speed operation Kinco KC100 and KC200
Call up fixed speeds via switches or a PLC, without a potentiometer or analog signal: you store up to eight (KC100) or 16 frequencies (KC200) in the drive and select them via digital inputs. Ideal for conveyors, pumps and fans with fixed operating points.
Disconnect all supplies and wait at least 10 minutes until the charge indicator has gone out. Only then touch the terminals.
The digital inputs are rated for 9–30 V DC. Never apply mains voltage to the control terminals.
The KC100 and KC200 have no STO. Implement safe motor shutdown on site with a contactor or safety circuit.
1Set the frequency source to multi-referenceRequired
The drive separates two questions: where does the run command come from (control source F01.03), and where does the frequency come from (frequency source F01.04)? For multi-speed operation you change the frequency source. Digital inputs then select one of the stored frequencies.
F01.04 has the same settings on the KC100 and KC200 and can only be changed at standstill.
Parameter Value Meaning F01.04 8 Frequency source X = multi-reference F01.03 1 Control source = terminals, if DI1 starts the motor (factory default 0 = keypad) With F01.03 = 0 (factory default) you start on the keypad with RUN. The terminals then only select the frequency. If a PLC or a switch is to start the motor, set F01.03 = 1.

2Assign digital inputs as multi-reference terminalsRequired
Each multi-reference terminal is one bit. One terminal selects between two steps, two terminals between four, three between eight. The KC200 has a fourth terminal and therefore 16 steps.
You can choose freely which input carries the function. Here DI1 stays forward run and the multi-reference terminals follow in order from DI2. DI2 is reverse run by default and is changed to multi-reference terminal 1. The parameters of group F08 can only be changed at standstill.
Parameter Value Meaning F08.00 1 DI1 = forward run (factory default, keep) F08.01 21 DI2 = multi-reference terminal 1 → 2 steps (instead of reverse) F08.02 22 DI3 = multi-reference terminal 2 → 4 steps F08.03 23 DI4 = multi-reference terminal 3 → 8 steps F08.04 24 KC200 only: DI5 = multi-reference terminal 4 → 16 steps How many multi-reference terminals do you need?
Steps Terminals Function values Device 2 1 21 KC100, KC200 4 2 21, 22 KC100, KC200 8 3 21, 22, 23 KC100, KC200 16 4 21, 22, 23, 24 KC200 only Still need reverse? KC200: DI6 is free, F08.05 = 2. KC100: it has only four digital inputs. The analog input can take over reverse: F18.00 = 2 turns AI into a digital input, active above 7 V (F12.28), inactive below 3 V (F12.27, both factory defaults). The wiring, e.g. a contact from 10V to AI, is derived and not shown in the manual.
The contacts switch between DIx and COM. The OP–+24V jumper stays as delivered.

3Enter the step frequenciesRequired
The frequencies are in group F17. Steps 1 to 7 (KC100) or 1 to 15 (KC200) are fixed values between 0.00 Hz and the maximum frequency F01.11. All are set to 5.00 Hz by default. You can change them at any time, even while running.
Step 0 is special: it applies when all multi-reference terminals are OFF and takes its value from the source set in F17.00. By default this is the keypad frequency setting F01.10, which is 50.00 Hz.
Parameter Value Meaning F17.00 0 (factory default) Source for step 0: 0 = keypad (F01.10) · 1 = AI (KC200: AI1, 2 = AI2, 3 = AI3) · 4 = potentiometer · 5 = communication · 6 = pulse input · 7 = PID F17.01 z. B. 20.00 Hz Step 1 F17.02 z. B. 30.00 Hz Step 2 F17.03 z. B. 50.00 Hz Step 3 F17.04–F17.07 as required Steps 4–7, three or more terminals F17.08–F17.15 as required KC200 only: steps 8–15, four terminals Step 0 is not a stop position. With a run command and all terminals OFF, the motor runs at the frequency from F17.00, i.e. 50.00 Hz by default. If it should run slowly there, adjust F01.10. If it should stand still, remove the run command.
Steps that no terminal combination reaches do not need to be set to zero.
Between two steps the drive follows the acceleration and deceleration ramp (F01.23/F01.24).

4Which terminals select which step?Required
The multi-reference terminals form a binary number: terminal 1 counts 1, terminal 2 counts 2, terminal 3 counts 4, terminal 4 counts 8. The sum of the terminals that are ON is the step. Example: terminals 1 and 3 ON → 1 + 4 = step 5 (F17.05).
Try it right in the table: tap the terminals and the matching step is highlighted.

5Change steps via ModbusOptional
A PLC can rewrite the step frequencies via Modbus RTU while the terminals keep doing the selection. Parameter registers consist of group and index: F17.01 is at 0x1101 (EEPROM) or 0x9101 (RAM). The value counts in 0.01 Hz, so 2000 means 20.00 Hz.
If the PLC writes cyclically, use the RAM address. The EEPROM only tolerates a limited number of write cycles. The EEPROM address is meant for values you set once.
Registers for the steps

B. 2000 = 20.00 Hz F17.02 0x9102 (37122) 0x1102 (4354) 0.01 Hz F17.07 0x9107 (37127) 0x1107 (4359) 0.01 Hz F17.15 (KC200 only) 0x910F (37135) 0x110F (4367) 0.01 Hz Step 0 can come directly from the Modbus setpoint: F17.00 = 5, value on 0x7010 (28688). Scaling: 0–10000 corresponds to 0–100 % of the maximum frequency F01.11. Example (calculated): F01.11 = 50.00 Hz, 30.00 Hz required → 6000.
0x7010 is a single register for all setpoints set to communication. Step 0 and a PID setpoint therefore cannot both be written via Modbus at the same time.
