Fieldbus and Communication Protocols
Fieldbuses are industrial network standards for real-time communication between PLCs, I/O modules, sensors and actuators.

PROFINET / EtherCAT / EtherNet/IP: Real-time capable Ethernet protocols – direct connection to Siemens S7, Beckhoff TwinCAT, Allen-Bradley and others.
Modbus TCP/RTU: Simple, open standard – supported by virtually every PLC and many frequency inverters.

The protocol determines which controller can integrate the module directly without a gateway.

Galvanic Isolation of the Serial Interface
A galvanically or optically isolated interface interrupts the conductive connection between the module and the connected device. This prevents equalising currents via ground loops that can cause interference or damage.

Particularly important when devices operate at different potential levels or when long cable runs are installed.

Protection Rating per IP Standard (IEC 60529)
The IP designation (Ingress Protection) indicates how well a device is protected against contact, dust and water.

IP20: Protection against finger contact – no dust or water protection. Standard for control cabinet installation.
IP67: Fully dustproof and waterproof during temporary submersion (1 m, 30 min). Suitable for field mounting directly on machines.
