If you need to connect a machine without structured LAN wiring to a plant network or service portal — and at the same time require a rugged operator panel in industrial format — the Kinco GL2070HE-WIFI is a powerful 7" HMI from the GREEN Series 2nd Generation. Built-in IEEE 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, three serial COM ports, supply voltage from 10.8 V DC, and an IP65-protected front make it particularly suitable for applications where wireless connectivity and mobility matter.
🏭 Typical applications
Machine without LAN connection: Workshops, outdoor areas, or retrofitted plants without structured LAN cabling can be integrated into the plant network via WLAN. No cabinet needs to be opened, no network cable laid.
Vehicle and mobile applications: Excavators, aerial work platforms, forklifts, or special machinery with a 12 V on-board power system: The supply voltage range from 10.8 to 28 V covers typical on-board voltage fluctuations where HMIs with an 18 V minimum would fail.
Cabinet mounting in production environments: The cutout dimension of 192 × 138 mm fits standard cabinet doors and operating panels. IP65 front protection reliably keeps out splash water, dust, and coolant vapours. Operation with work gloves is fully possible thanks to the resistive touch panel.
Multi-device communication: PLC via RS-485, barcode scanner via RS-232, supervisory system via WLAN — all three COM ports and the wireless module can be used in parallel without a multiplexer.
🖥️ Display and touch
The 7" TFT display has a resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels and renders 16.7 million colours. With 450 cd/m² brightness, the panel is designed for industrial lighting conditions; it is not specified for direct sunlight. Contrast ratio is 800:1, viewing angle 85/85/85/85° (left/right/up/down).
The operator interface is a 4-wire resistive touch panel with a surface hardness of 4H — robust against mechanical stress and scratches. LED backlight is rated for 30,000 operating hours.
👆 Resistive touch: practical advantages
Resistive touch panels respond to pressure instead of electrical conductivity. This means operation also works with thick work gloves, wet fingers, a stylus, or a blunt tool — everywhere industrial reality applies. The surface is also more scratch-resistant than capacitive acrylic panels.
💡 Choosing the right variant: If you prefer smooth multi-touch operation with pinch-to-zoom and swipe gestures — for instance, for chart analysis or comfort visualisation in office environments — choose the Kinco GL2070HE-LX with capacitive acrylic touch instead. Note: the LX starts at 18 V DC and is therefore not suitable for mobile applications.
📶 Integrated WLAN (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n)
The WLAN module supports IEEE 802.11 b, g, and n in the 2.4 GHz band. This allows the HMI to be integrated into any industrial WLAN — to connect to PLCs on the same network, to service PCs, or directly to the EdgeAccess2 cloud. The wireless module complements the wired LAN port but does not replace it: those who want to use both paths in parallel (LAN for machine communication, WLAN for external service access) can do so.
🔌 Interfaces and connectivity
WLAN: IEEE 802.11 b/g/n built in (2.4 GHz).
Ethernet: 1 × LAN, 10/100 Mbit/s (RJ45) — for wired network access, program download, and EdgeAccess2 remote maintenance.
Serial ports: COM0: RS-232 / RS-485 / RS-422 (switchable, 1 channel usable at a time); COM1: RS-485; COM2: RS-232 — three serial communication channels usable in parallel.
USB: 1 × USB host (data backup, firmware update, extended storage); 1 × USB slave Type-C (program download from PC).
Real-time clock (RTC): built in — for time-controlled processes, logging, and shift schedules without external hardware.
🌐 Remote maintenance with EdgeAccess2
The GL2070HE-WIFI is integrated into the EdgeAccess2 platform from Kinco. Via a secured internet connection — directly through the built-in WLAN or the LAN port — HMI projects can be uploaded and downloaded remotely, the HMI screen monitored live, and PLC programs transparently passed through, read, and modified. Service level agreements with fast response times are achievable without on-site visits.
🔗 Wide PLC driver library
Pre-configured drivers for all common control system manufacturers are already included: Siemens S7-200/300/400/1200/1500 and LOGO!, Mitsubishi FX, Omron, Beckhoff TwinCAT ADS, Xinje XD/XL and XC, Kinco PLC, and Codesys V3-based controllers. If you operate an existing plant with another PLC brand, DTools Pro usually provides a matching driver right away — without manual protocol configuration.
🏷️ Manufacturer and reliability
Kinco Automation is an established HMI and drive technology manufacturer with a broad installed base in the global industrial market. The GL2070HE-WIFI is CE-certified to EN IEC 61000-6-2:2019 (EMC immunity, industrial) and EN IEC 61000-6-4:2019 (EMC emissions, industrial), and meets IP65 at the front per IEC 60529. Kinco HMIs are in use at well over 100 spstiger customers in Germany.
