Kinco KC100 / KC200 – Multi-Speed Operation

Select multiple pre-programmed speed steps via digital input terminals — ideal for conveyors, pumps, and fans with defined operating points.

Safety Notice Before Commissioning Switch off mains power and ensure the drive is fully discharged before any wiring work (wait at least 5 minutes). Digital inputs operate at 24 V DC — never apply mains voltage to the control terminals. The complete manual (KC100 Series User Manual or KC200 Series User Manual) must be read before commissioning.

Parameter F01.04 — Identical for KC100 and KC200

The drive distinguishes between command source (where do start/stop commands come from?) and frequency source (what frequency should be run?). For multi-speed operation, only the frequency source needs to be changed — the command source (F01.03) remains unchanged.

What happens after this setting? The drive will ignore the keypad setpoint or AI input. Instead it reads the DI terminals and selects one of the stored speed steps (Step 3). Which step is active depends on which terminals are closed (Step 4).

Group F08 — Digital Input Functions

For multi-speed operation, one or more DI inputs must be assigned the special functions 21 (terminal 1), 22 (terminal 2), 23 (terminal 3), and optionally 24 (terminal 4) for the KC200. How many DI inputs you need depends on how many speed steps your application requires.

Free choice of DI terminal: You can assign the MS functions (21, 22, 23, 24) to any available DI input — e.g. DI2, DI5, or DI6 on the KC200. What matters is that the correct F08.xx parameters are changed and the wiring matches. Note: DI1 defaults to forward run (1) — on the KC100 it is recommended to keep DI1 for FWD since there would otherwise be no dedicated start input.

Group F17 — Multi-Speed References

All target frequencies are stored in this parameter group. Step 0 is a special case: it is active when all MS terminals are open, and its source is configured separately in F17.00 (e.g. keypad or AI input). Steps 1–7 (KC100) or 1–15 (KC200) contain fixed Hz values.

Unused steps: If you only use 4 steps (2 DI terminals), steps 4–7 will never be activated — you do not need to set them to 0. They simply cannot be reached by any terminal combination.

Selection Table — 0 = terminal open · 1 = terminal connected to COM (active)

Each combination of open and closed MS terminals selects exactly one speed step. The principle is binary encoding — which sounds complex but is easy to look up: simply find the step you want in the table below and close the indicated terminals.

How to remember it — the binary principle: MS1 represents bit value 1, MS2 = 2, MS3 = 4, MS4 = 8. The step number equals the sum of the active bit values. Example: MS1 and MS3 active → 1 + 4 = Step 5. Or simply: just look it up in the table above.

Complete all items before the first start
Typical fault sources: If the drive jumps to an unexpected step, a DI terminal is usually inadvertently active (cable touching 24 V). Use D00.16 (DI status in the monitor menu) to read the real-time state of all DI inputs.
