Solidot SW4-GUP05D industrial switch, 5 × Gigabit – broadcast storm protection

The last port on the switch in the control cabinet is taken, and the new operator panel or camera still has to go on the network. Or an accidentally plugged loop floods the network with broadcast packets, and controller and drives lose their connection. The Solidot SW4 switches solve both without configuration: 5, 8 or 16 ports, 100 Mbit/s or Gigabit, optionally with switchable broadcast storm protection. Plug in the cables, apply power, done.

🏭 Typical Applications

• Extending the control cabinet: PLC, HMI, frequency inverter and remote I/O on one switch on the DIN rail, powered from the existing 24 V supply.

• Protecting the network: The D models limit broadcast traffic so that a broadcast storm does not bring down the entire machine network. The protection is enabled via DIP switch on the device.

• Many devices on one machine: HUP16D and GUP16D give you 16 ports in one device instead of cascading several small switches.

• Cameras and data volume: Use the Gigabit models (GUP) for cameras, code readers and large data volumes; 100 Mbit/s (HUP) is enough for controllers and field devices.

• Cold and hot environments: Operation from −40 °C to +80 °C without a fan: unheated hall, outdoor cabinet or warm control cabinet.

• HUP or GUP: HUP = 10/100 Mbit/s, GUP = 10/100/1000 Mbit/s.

• Without storm protection (suffix C): HUP05C, HUP08C, GUP05C, GUP08C: aluminium housing, 9 – 52 V DC, ≤ 3 W, MTBF over 100,000 h.

• With broadcast storm protection (suffix D): HUP05D, HUP08D, HUP16D, GUP05D, GUP08D, GUP16D: metal housing, 9 – 56 V DC, MTBF over 300,000 h.

• 16 ports: only available with storm protection: HUP16D and GUP16D.

🔗 Compatibility

Unmanaged switches are protocol-independent: Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, web servers and anything that runs over standard Ethernet. They forward PROFINET telegrams but treat them like any other packet. If you need prioritisation for PROFINET, use the Solidot SW4-PN (PROFINET Class A).

⚠️ Limitations Stated Openly

• Unmanaged: no VLANs, no ring redundancy, no SNMP diagnostics. For that, use the SW4 models with 2 SFP ports in lite or fully managed versions.

• The C models have no broadcast storm protection.

• 16 ports only as D model (HUP16D, GUP16D).

• Protection class IP40: for control cabinets or protected enclosures, not for unprotected field mounting.
