Two control cabinets are 150 metres apart across the hall, and the motor cable of a frequency inverter runs alongside. Copper Ethernet is limited to 100 m and picks up interference in this environment. The link belongs on fibre, and for that the switch needs SFP ports. The Solidot SW4-SFP2 switches have 4 or 8 Gigabit RJ45 ports plus 2 Gigabit SFP ports, available unmanaged, lite managed or fully managed.
🏭 Typical Applications
Fibre between control cabinets: connect links over 100 m or along interfering cables via SFP modules.
Ring redundancy: build a ring with the managed models and STP, RSTP or ERPS: if a cable breaks, traffic continues via the other side.
Separating networks: keep machine network and office network separated on the same infrastructure with VLANs (managed models).
Monitoring the network: the fully managed GMSP8D-SFP2 provides status data via SNMP v1/v2/v3 to your network monitoring.
🧩 Which Variant?
Unmanaged: GUP04D-SFP2 (4 + 2 SFP), GUP08D-SFP2 (8 + 2 SFP): no configuration, ≤ 5 W.
Lite managed Layer 2: GMP04D-SFP2 (4 + 2 SFP), GMP08D-SFP2 (8 + 2 SFP): STP, RSTP, ERPS, VLAN, QoS, ≤ 10 W.
Fully managed Layer 2: GMSP8D-SFP2 (8 + 2 SFP): additionally IGMP snooping/GMRP and SNMP v1/v2/v3, operation up to +85 °C, ≤ 10 W.
🔌 Technical Specifications
Ports: 4 or 8 × RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, auto MDI/MDI-X, plus 2 × SFP 1000 Mbit/s with DDM module detection
Switching: store-and-forward, MAC table 8K, buffer 4.1 Mbit (GMSP8D: 4 Mbit), backplane 24 Gbit/s (GMSP8D: 40 Gbit/s), jumbo frames up to 10K (GMSP8D: 9K)
Power supply: redundant 9 – 56 V DC or 24 V AC, reverse polarity protection, 4 A overcurrent protection
Power consumption: ≤ 5 W (unmanaged), ≤ 10 W (managed)
Environment: operation −40 °C to +80 °C (GMSP8D: up to +85 °C), storage −40 °C to +85 °C, non-condensing
Housing: metal, IP40, passive cooling without fan, MTBF over 300,000 h
Standards: IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3x, 802.3z; managed models also 802.1D, 802.1Q, 802.1p
🔗 Compatibility
The SFP ports accept Gigabit SFP modules according to IEEE 802.3z (1000BASE-X); choose the modules to match fibre and distance. On the copper side the switches are protocol-independent and work with anything that runs over standard Ethernet.
⚠️ Limitations Stated Openly
SFP modules are not included.
Unmanaged models (GUP…): no ring redundancy, no VLANs.
SNMP and IGMP snooping are specified by the manufacturer only for the GMSP8D-SFP2.
For the SFP2 models there is currently no German or English user manual; this mainly affects configuring the managed models.
Protection class IP40: for control cabinets or protected enclosures.
🏷️ Manufacturer and Reliability
Solidot (s'Dot, Nanjing Solidot Electronic Technology) specialises in industrial network and remote I/O technology. The SW4-SFP2 switches carry the CE marking (EMC according to EN 55032 and EN 55035); you will find the certificate in the Downloads tab. spstiger supports the series with German-language advice and support.
