EtherCAT is designed as a line: from the master through every device to the last one. If a machine consists of several modules, such as a conveyor on the left, a station on the right and a tool that gets changed, the line becomes a detour. Cables run out and back again, and unplugging one module takes everything behind it off the network. The Solidot SW4-ECP junctions split one EtherCAT segment into 3 or 5 branches, with distributed clocks and hot-pluggable ports.
🏭 Typical Applications
Star and tree topology: create branches to machine modules instead of running the line through the whole plant.
Exchangeable machine sections: plug tools or stations in and out on their own branch without interrupting the rest of the line.
Shorter cable runs: the junction sits centrally in the control cabinet, the branches go directly to the axis and I/O groups.
Synchronous axes: distributed clocks are maintained across the junction, for example for several servo axes on different branches.

🔗 Compatibility
According to the manufacturer, the junctions work with common EtherCAT masters from various vendors. Import the ESI file into your engineering tool and configure the junction like any other device.
⚠️ Limitations Stated Openly
EtherCAT only: the ports are EtherCAT ports. For standard Ethernet devices use one of the SW4 switches.
Operation only from −10 °C to +60 °C, considerably narrower than the SW4 switches.
Supply 24 V DC only (ECP04A 20.4 – 28.8 V, ECP06 18 – 36 V), no wide-range input.
Protection class IP20: for control cabinets or protected enclosures only.
🏷️ Manufacturer and Reliability
Solidot (s'Dot, Nanjing Solidot Electronic Technology) specialises in industrial network and remote I/O technology, including EtherCAT remote I/O such as the EC4 and EC5R series.
