If you want to collect a lot of simple sensors, valves or indicators in the control cabinet without a dedicated terminal for every channel, an IO-Link hub is the answer. The Solidot IOL5A bundles up to 32 digital channels and passes them on to an IO-Link master over a single cable — as a pure 32-channel input or output hub, or with 16 fixed inputs plus 16 freely configurable channels, optionally with channel diagnostics in the data area.
🏭 Typical applications
Saving terminal rows in the cabinet: 16 or 32 signals end at the hub instead of at just as many terminal blocks. Only one IO-Link cable runs to the master.
Collecting many simple signals: proximity switches, indicators, valves — this is exactly what the hub is built for: many channels, little cabinet space.
Retrofitting without rebuilding the controller: The hub is a standard IO-Link slave and works with masters from any manufacturer. No free slot in the PLC needed, just a free port on the master.
Device replacement without reconfiguration: The hub supports data storage. After a swap, the replacement device fetches its configuration from the master itself.
Locating faults without a production stop: The model with „J“ channel diagnostics reports channel status directly in the data area to the controller — simpler to evaluate than a collective fault in the alarm area.
🔌 Connections and channels
To the master: M12, A-coded, 4-pin, male. IO-Link protocol V1.1.3, transmission rate COM3 (230.4 kBd), minimum cycle time 4.5 ms, cable length up to 20 m.
To the field: 5-pin spring terminals for supply and channels — no crimping, no screwing, wired directly in the cabinet.
Channel direction: The IOL5A-3200 has 32 digital inputs (NPN/PNP compatible), the IOL5A-0032B has 32 digital outputs (PNP, max. 0.5 A per channel). The IOL5A-1616CB combines 16 fixed inputs with 16 freely configurable channels (PNP output). The IOL5A-1616CBJ technically matches the 1616CB but additionally reports channel diagnostics in the data area and supports cascading.
Inputs, electrical (IOL5A-3200 / 1616CB / 1616CBJ): 24 V DC (20.4–28.8 V), NPN/PNP-compatible, approx. 5 mA per channel, reaction time < 50 µs, input filter factory-set to 3 ms (0.1–18 ms adjustable).
Outputs, electrical (IOL5A-0032B): 24 V DC (20.4–28.8 V), PNP, max. 0.5 A per channel, voltage drop < 1 V, leakage current < 10 µA, reaction time < 150 µs, for resistive, inductive and lamp loads.
Diagnostics: Channel status via green LED, short-circuit and reverse-polarity protection with automatic auto-restart, firmware update via the master.
🔧 Mounting and environment
Screw mounting, 152 mm x 53 mm x 33 mm, 0.2 kg, plastic housing, IP20 protection rating — for the control cabinet, not for field use. Supply 24 V DC (18 – 30 V), operating temperature -25 °C to +70 °C, storage -40 °C to +85 °C, altitude up to 2000 m, pollution degree 2, overvoltage category I. We also carry a matching dust cover for the terminal area as an accessory.
