Product information "Kinco iSMD servo motor with integrated drive 0.4 – 1 kW, 24 – 60 V DC"

If you want to drive an axis in a decentralised way without putting a servo amplifier into the cabinet for every motor, the Kinco iSMD series is the compact answer: motor, power stage, control loop and absolute encoder all sit in one housing. Between controller and drive only the supply line and the bus cable remain — no motor cable, no encoder cable, no cabinet space.

The series covers 0.4 kW, 0.75 kW and 1 kW and runs on 24 to 60 V DC (48 V DC nominal). That makes it at home wherever low voltage is mandatory: automated guided vehicles, mobile and collaborative robots, intralogistics and handling modules.

🏭 Typical applications

  • AGVs and mobile robots: mounted directly on the wheel or the lifting axis, powered from the 48 V battery. The multiturn absolute encoder keeps the position after power-off — no homing run at start-up.

  • Decentralised axes in packaging and feeding equipment: several axes on one EtherCAT or CANopen line instead of one amplifier per axis in the cabinet.

  • Machines with a safety requirement: the S version provides a two-channel STO input at the drive itself, designed to SIL 3 / category 3 / PL e.

  • Wash-down or dusty environments: the IP65 version needs no cabinet and is mounted where the axis works.

🔧 Drive and control in one housing

The control loops run at 8 kHz for position and 16 kHz for speed and current — fast enough for dynamic positioning profiles. Rated speed is 3,000 rpm; rated torque is 1.27 Nm, 2.39 Nm or 3.18 Nm depending on the power class, with peak torque at three times that value (3.81 / 7.17 / 9.54 Nm).

Every power class is available with or without a mechanical holding brake. The brake runs on 24 V DC and holds 2 Nm (60 mm flange) or 4 Nm (80 mm flange) — for lifting axes that have to stay put when de-energised.

🌐 Fieldbus: CANopen, EtherCAT or PROFINET

The RS-485 and CANopen version speaks Modbus RTU and CANopen up to 1 Mbit/s — the classic route for Kinco, Xinje or Beckhoff controllers with a CAN port. The EtherCAT version works as a CoE slave to CiA 402 with the CSP, CSV, PP, PV, PT and homing modes. The PROFINET version supports telegrams 1, 3, 5, 9, 102, 105 and 111, acyclic services and DSC, so the drive can be engineered on a Siemens controller like any standard drive.

Parameterisation and diagnostics run through the free Kinco PC software, connected to the USB-C port on the drive.

🔌 Connections and I/O

Every drive provides three digital inputs and two digital outputs (open collector, 100 mA). One input works as a fast probe input and reacts in less than 10 µs — useful for capturing a reference mark on the fly.

💡 Pulse/direction is only available on the IP20 version: it additionally accepts two pulse channels up to 500 kHz and is wired via screw terminals. The IP65 version runs on the bus only and is wired via circular connectors.

🔍 Protection class: IP20 or IP65

Both versions are electrically identical. The IP20 version belongs in protected areas and inside the machine frame, the IP65 version goes outside onto the axis — its housing is rated IP65, the shaft end reaches IP54.

✅ Certification and standards

The series is EMC tested to EN IEC 61800-3:2023 and EN 61800-3:2004+A1 — certificate of conformity to the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU issued by TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH, registration no. AE 50724026 0001 dated 2026-04-20 (test report CN26Z09R 001). The drives are classified as category C3: intended for industrial locations, not for residential, commercial or light industrial locations.

For North America a UL Recognized Component certificate to UL 61800-5-1 (2nd edition) is available, certificate UL-US-26117488-0, together with the Canadian recognition to CSA C22.2 No. 274 (UL-CA-2686401-0) — both dated 2026-06-15, report E485782. "Recognized Component" means the drive is recognised as a component for installation in complete equipment, not as a separately listed end product. Both recognitions can be verified publicly in UL's Product iQ database — under NMMS2.E485782 (USA) and NMMS8.E485782 (Canada), each listing the series as "iSMD or iGMD".

⚠️ On the STO function: the safe torque off of the S version is designed to SIL 3 / category 3 / PL e. A functional safety certificate to EN 61800-5-2 is not yet available to us. If you intend to use STO within a safety circuit, please ask us for the current status before ordering — we obtain it from the manufacturer and pass it on in writing.

🏷️ Manufacturer and accessories

Kinco Automation has been developing drive technology and HMI for the global industrial market for years; Kinco servo drives are in use at many spstiger customers in Germany. Useful for operation: the battery for the multiturn absolute encoder, an external braking resistor for applications with high regenerative load, and the matching connection cables. Talk to us and we will put the set together for your axis.

Manufacturer "Kinco"
Kinco is one of the leading manufacturers of automation technology in Asia. The company's research and development team is based at its headquarters in Shenzhen (China) on the border with Hong Kong, and Kinco also operates a research center in Germany, a unique feature among Chinese companies.
In terms of quality and range of functions, Kinco is strongly oriented towards the European and German markets. Communication drivers for Siemens S7 controllers are therefore included in every HMI. The company has a modern and reliable range of HMIs, drive technology and controllers. Kinco already generates more than 10% of its turnover internationally, and Germany is one of the manufacturer's growth markets.
