🔌 What for
Connection between PLC and remote I/O module, and for daisy-chaining module to module (2 × RJ45 per module, no switch required).
Protocol-neutral: PROFINET (PN4, PN5R, PN7A), EtherCAT (EC4, EC5R, EC7A), EtherNet/IP (EI4) and Modbus TCP (MT4).
🧵 PVC or PUR — which one
PVC: the more economical choice for fixed installation in the cabinet and in cable ducts.
PUR: tougher, more abrasion-resistant and oil-resistant — for moving installation, machine environments and anything that does not just sit in the cabinet.
📐 Technical basis
CAT5, shielded, 100 Mbps — matching the Ethernet interface of the Solidot modules.
Maximum cable length between two stations: 100 m (fieldbus specification).
Lengths: 0.5 · 1 · 2 · 3 · 5 · 10 · 20 m. Custom lengths are available from the manufacturer on request — get in touch if you need one.
⚠️ Limits stated honestly
RJ45 is an IP20 connector — for control cabinets and protected enclosures. In the field with splash water or dust, M12 cables (D-coded) are the right choice.
Not Cat6/Cat6a — explicitly not intended for gigabit links. The Solidot modules operate at 100 Mbps.
